Como, 20/03/2015 – In the framework of the EU CBRN CoE Project 3 “Knowledge development and transfer of best practice on biosafety, biosecurity and biorisk management” the Insubria Center on International Security (ICIS) is glad to announce the successful continuation of the second phase of the project, which involves the training of National Participants (link) in the participating countries.

The topics featured during the local training sessions have been selected by the National Experts who attended the courses organized during the first training phase of the project and have now become trainers. The high level of engagement shown during these meetings demonstrates a deep interest, at national level, in the global impact of biosafety and biosecurity.

The local training sessions commenced in January 2015 and are still ongoing in many countries. During the month of February, trainings were held in Singapore (12th), Myanmar (18th-19th), Gabon (24th-26th), Brunei Darussalam (25th-26th), Croatia (27th), with an high level of engagement among professionals and academics, often supported by the presence of national authorities. This high level of activity continued in March with national trainings taking place in the Philippines (2nd-4th), Algeria (2nd-6th), Moldova (4th-6th), Thailand (5th), Albania (10th), and further trainings are scheduled to take place in the coming weeks.

The EU CBRN CoE Initiative is funded by the European Commission and implemented in cooperation with the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI) and the European Commission Joint Research Center (JRC). The European External Action Service is also involved in the follow-up of the initiative. The initiative is developed with the technical support of relevant international and regional organisations, the EU Member States and other stakeholders, through coherent and effective cooperation at the national, regional and international level.
