Science and Technology for Non-Proliferation Program

Science and TechnologyThe program aims to identify current and emerging threats from nuclear-biological-chemical-radiological (CBRN) proliferation as well as sensitive knowledge diversion. Its main scopes are:

  • Expanding and universalizing Threat Reduction approaches exploiting the experience acquired through the initiatives promoted towards Russia/CIS
  • Assessing and countering the diversion of CBRN technology and know-how especially in weak states.
  • Bio-proliferation reduction.

Water and Energy Security Program

Water Security_DEFWater scarcity and unmet energy demands represent worldwide potential sources of conflicts and tension. At the same time, these issues offer a concrete ground for facilitating inter-states dialogues and they represent an area of positive and cooperative engagement for the international community,  governments, NGOs, as well as global civil society. ICIS Water Program aims to foster international water management projects and to favour the realization of initiatives based on the virtual water concept linking water and food programs. ICIS can count on a series of leading experts in the field and on a solid partnerships with international organization.

  • Knowledge Development and Transfer of Best Practice on Bio-safety, Bio-security and Bio-risk Management (in the framework of the EU CBRN Centres of Excellence (CoE) Initiative by the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC) and the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI), under the aegis of European Commission’s Directorate General for Development and Cooperation – EuropeAid (DG DEVCO) and the European External Action Service (EEAS). ICIS is the main applicant);
  • Guidelines, procedures and standardization on bio-safety/bio-security (in the framework of the EU CBRN Centres of Excellence (CoE) Initiative by the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC) and the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI), under the aegis of European Commission’s Directorate General for Development and Cooperation – EuropeAid (DG DEVCO) and the European External Action Service (EEAS).  ICIS is partner);
  • Feasibility study for the realisation of projects in the Core Parties of EXACT (financed by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs – Directorate General for Development and Cooperation)
